Welcome to the Berrien Springs Middle School website for the Counseling Office!  My name is Aly Gorby, and I am the School Counselor here at BSMS.  

The mission of the BSMS Counseling Office aligns very closely with the Berrien Springs Public Schools mission: 

"Together, inspiring students to think, learn, achieve and care in a global community."  

The mission of the counseling office is to provide all students with the supports and resources needed to grow into successful, resilient, and principled individuals.  

My personal philosophy is that school counseling is much like a funnel.  The top of the funnel represents the need for all students to receive some form of counseling through classroom lessons and presentations or large group activities.  The middle of the funnel is smaller, meaning that some students may need more counseling services.  This is done through small group counseling sessions and periodic check-ins with the counselor.  Finally, the narrowest part of the funnel represents an even small group of students who may need even more services provided by the counseling office.  These students may meet with the counselor on a weekly basis, receive support frequently, or be part of a Child Study Team (CST).
